17:00 - 18:00
Welcome to the publication launch event of the New Narratives Reader, with contributions from Felicia Ahlnäs, Awra Atsilut, Ahmed Al-Nawas, Inga Angersaari, Maija Baijukya, Leonardo Custódio, Hilina Derese, Mona Eid, Dahlia El Broul, Fiona Elone, Mahdi Hamidi, Kattis Honkanen, Katarina Jungar, Adila Lehtonen, Ramieza Mahdi, Wanjiku Nygård, Eugene Paramoer, Naadira Patel, Adrian Perera, Adile Sevimli, Christopher Wessels, Arda Yildirim and Breeze Yoko. The articles in this collection reflect, among other things, on the New Narratives Summer School organised by the Children’s Library project, which was held at the Museum of Impossible Forms in Helsinki in 2018.
The Children’s Library is an artistic scientific research project funded by the KONE foundation and associated with Åbo Akademi University and later CEREN at the University of Helsinki. The project involved researchers from gender studies, literature, art, and curating, alongside artists and cultural workers from Finland, South Africa and elsewhere. Focusing on children’s culture and literature, it aimed to create spaces for counter-narratives. This reader offers diverse perspectives on education and literature through texts and images, serving as both an archive and an educational tool to connect history, theory, and representation with personal experiences essential for cultural work.
